"Fo'ty A'cahs'an'a Mule"

Mostly all we had was hopes and dreams, and even them was beaten out of us a lot'o times. But when "Freedom" come, the freed man could lay back, on a nice day, in a fiel'o grass, imagining what it be like when he got his "forty acres and his mule", as impossible as it seemed.

At last something to cling to, but being in bondage from 1643 till 1850, in a lot of cases, made it quite a difficult situation to grasp…….and utilize the reality . . . of this reality. But, with the onset of "Freedom", a man or woman could think about mostly anything . . . good.
